Hello everyone.

Today I'm presenting a redesign of an ornamental feature in the Plaza Constitución in the Cuevas de San Marcos (Málaga).

The project area was located in the town's Plaza Constitución, an area notable for its spaciousness and slope.

The objective of the project was to adapt a small ornamental element in the square, which served as a roundabout and was designed to accommodate vehicle traffic.

Likewise, the area's plumbing, sanitation, and electrical installations have been addressed.

Based on the proposed plan, we can locate the location of the ornamental element using aerial and topographic photography, observing that this ornamental element is located on a street with heavy traffic.

Returning to the area of action, the project sought to adapt to the needs of the road and traffic, therefore, the ornamental element had to be small in size to allow vehicles to move through the area as naturally as possible.

Looking more closely at the current state of the plant, we can highlight the use of geometric elements, as well as natural additions such as plants and flowers.

As we highlighted previously, the project is located in Plaza Constitución, an area of the Cuevas de San Marcos with a steep lateral slope, which can be easily observed by looking at the eastern elevation of the ornamental element.

The following image shows the result of the ornamental element located in the Plaza Constitución, which functions as a roundabout.

As we can see, we have sought to maintain the font function that the original element had while also beautifying the entire appearance of this element.

Compared to the previous plant, this new ornamental element places greater emphasis on decoration, incorporating different types of flowers and adopting a more rural aesthetic.

Under this new design proposal, we see that the dimensions of the roundabout have been slightly reduced, and its shapes have also been rounded to better adapt to road traffic.

Going into more detail about the elements that make up the new plan, we can distinguish 5 areas that make up the roundabout, 3 of which are for the addition of vegetative elements, one for the incorporation of a waterwheel, and another to house a small water pond.

In the following image we distinguish the different elevations of the ornamental element and how they adapt to the slope of the street.

As we described above, this new plant has two distinct sections: a Ferris wheel and a small garden.

This last image shows the final result of the project to redesign the ornamental element in Plaza Constitución. It adapts to vehicle traffic, as well as to the needs of the area's water, electrical, and sewage systems, while reducing its size and modernizing the elements that make up this roundabout.

This project was designed by RBM Estudio de Arquitectura through architect Raúl Benítez Molina.

Raúl Benítez.
